Video Summary
In this video, Dr. Wong discusses the electrodiagnostic findings of a Martin Gruber anastomosis. This is a communication of nerve branches between the median nerve and the ulnar nerve in the forearm. There are four types of Martin Gruber anastomosis, with type two being the most common. Nerve conduction studies can reveal different findings depending on the presence of a median neuropathy at the wrist. In normal patients, stimulating the median nerve at the elbow produces a larger muscle response than at the wrist due to the crossover of nerve fibers. However, in patients with a median neuropathy, there may be different waveforms and conduction velocities.
