Ethics Vignette IX: Scope of an EDX Physician in Patient Care
Description
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this monograph is to familiarize the reader with the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine’s (AANEM’s) Guidelines for Ethical Behavior Relating to Clinical Practice Issues in Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. By utilizing true clinical scenarios, specific application of the guidelines can be discussed. Upon completion of these vignettes, the participants will acquire skills to (1) discuss AANEM’s position statement on performance of an electrodiagnostic study, (2) explain AANEM’s position on billing for evaluation and management (E/M) codes on the same day as an electrodiagnostic study, and (3) describe the electrodiagnostic physicians relationship to the patient as it pertains to beneficence and nonmaleficence.
