Self-Assessment: Neuromuscular Junction Disorders
Neuromuscular Junction Disorders: Self-Assessment
CME Available - No Technologist Credit

This self‑assessment focuses on neuromuscular junction disorders across the lifespan, including autoimmune myasthenia gravis (AChR and MuSK), congenital myasthenic syndromes, Lambert‑Eaton myasthenic syndrome, infant botulism, and transient neonatal myasthenia. Through case‑based multiple‑choice questions, learners will practice identifying characteristic clinical signs, understanding disease mechanisms and treatment targets, choosing and interpreting electrodiagnostic and serologic tests, and making safe, evidence‑based therapeutic decisions in common and challenging neuromuscular junction scenarios.

The Neuromuscular Junction Disorders Self-Assessment (SA) is an excellent study guide for maintenance of certification or preparing for board exams. The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) have reviewed and approved this product as part of a comprehensive lifelong learning program, which is mandated by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) as a necessary component of continuous certificaiton.

OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of this exam are to: 1) recognize key clinical, electrophysiologic, and pharmacologic features of autoimmune and congenital myasthenic syndromes, Lambert‑Eaton myasthenic syndrome, and neuromuscular junction involvement in congenital myopathies; 2) select appropriate diagnostic tests and interpret characteristic findings in neuromuscular junction disorders, including single‑fiber EMG jitter, repetitive nerve stimulation patterns, and relevant laboratory evaluations; 3) formulate initial, condition‑specific treatment strategies for myasthenia gravis, Lambert‑Eaton myasthenic syndrome, infant botulism, transient neonatal myasthenia, and drug‑related neuromuscular junction complications.
