Ethics Vignette V: Technologist and Patient Communications
Description
This ethics vignette discusses ethical guidelines END Technologists should follow when communicating with patients. It is taken from the The Patient-Physician RelationshipBeginning and Ending the Relationship; Informed Consent in Critical Consultation; Patient Communication, Comfort, and Preparedness; and Ethical Considerations and the Management of Neuromuscular Disease from the Guidelines for Ethical Behavior Relating to Clinical Practice Issues in Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (Muscle and Nerve 2015;52;1122-1129). Following the vignette are additional references and a discussion as to how the guidelines can be applied to these various clinical and ethical dilemmas.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE: Upon completion of these vignettes, the participants will acquire the skills to (1) differentiate information the technologist can give to the patient, (2) confidently address problems and ethical situations that arise, (3) ethically communicate with children and
people with limited or no understanding, (4) acknowledge effective communication with non- English speaking patients.


ACCREDITATION STATEMENT
The AANEM is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CREDIT DESIGNATION
