Ultrasound and Electrodiagnosis (EMG) of the Neck and Shoulder Nerves
Description

Ultrasound and Electrodiagnosis (EMG) of the Neck and Shoulder Nerves

Ultrasound and Electrodiagnosis (EMG) of the Neck and Shoulder Nerves training video is designed to provide a comprehensive approach to the use of ultrasound for the assessment of the neck and shoulder nerves. The presentation is structured to review the nerve anatomy, clinical assessment, the relative value, and technical approach of routine electrophysiologic techniques, scanning techniques, and image optimization with ultrasound. In addition, the clinical basis for utilizing ultrasound for assessment, and both normal / abnormal sonographic characteristics of the nerves, muscles, and other related anatomy is included.

Topics include:

  • Anatomy, Scan Techniques and Pathology of the Nerves of the Neck and Shoulder
  • Spinal Accessory Nerve
  • Supraclavicular Nerve
  • Phrenic Nerve
  • Dorsal Scapular Nerve
  • Lateral Pectoral Nerve
  • Long Thoracic Nerve
  • Nerve to Subclavius
  • Suprascapular Nerve
  • Axillary Nerve
  • Musculocutaneous Nerve
  • Medial Cutaneous Nerve of the Arm
  • Medial Cutaneous Nerve of the Forearm

Objectives: After viewing the activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Outline the complex anatomy and function of the different elements of the head and neck nerves.
  • Perform the clinical assessment for patients with neuropathies around the neck and shoulders.
  • State the relative value and technical aspects of commonly employed electrophysiologic techniques used for assessment of the neck and shoulder nerves.
  • Demonstrate the scanning techniques and image optimization for visualizing the neck and shoulder nerves and branches.
  • Identify the sonographic appearance of the neck and shoulder nerves and neighboring structures.
Recognize the sonographic appearance of various pathologic conditions affecting the neck and shoulder nerves.
