Ethics Vignette XVII: Questionable Electrodiagnostic Referral discusses the reasons why a physician might decline to perform electrodiagnostic (EDX) testing, identified strategies for communicating with referring providers in the context of inappropriate EDX referrals, and factors involved in the decision to report to the appropriate authorities providers delivering questionable treatments to patients with neuromuscular conditions. The intended audience is physicians, residents and fellows, and is also relevant to technologists. AANEM ethical vignettes utilize true clinical scenarios to highlight common ethical situations confronted by physicians and technologists that care for patients with neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders. Specific application of AANEM's Ethical Guidelines are discussed throughout each vignette.
