This ethical vignette discusses the scope of the EDX physician in patient care. Patients are referred for EDX studies, and sometimes specific tests are requested by the referring physicians. Whether EDX physicians need to perform only those tests ordered or, as clinicians, need to perform more tests based on findings remains a common question. Also addressed in this vignette is whether the EDX physician can discuss results with the patient if s/he is not the primary physician.
