Ultrasound and Electrodiagnosis (EMG) of the Tibial Nerve
Description

Ultrasound and Electrodiagnosis (EMG) of the Tibial Nerve

Ultrasound and Electrodiagnosis (EMG) of the Tibial Nerve Training Video lecture is designed to provide a comprehensive approach to the use of ultrasound for the assessment of the tibial nerve and tibial neuropathy at the tarsal tunnel and other locations. The presentation is structured to review the nerve anatomy, clinical assessment, the relative value, and technical approach of routine electrophysiologic techniques, scanning techniques, and image optimization with ultrasound. In addition, the clinical basis for utilizing ultrasound for assessment of both normal / abnormal sonographic characteristics of the nerves, muscles, and other related anatomy is included

Topics include:

  • Sciatic/Branches, Tibial/Branches, and Common Fibular /Branches Nerve Anatomy
  • Normal Sonographic Appearance of the Tibial Nerve
  • Scanning Protocols for Tibial Nerve Pathology
  • Commonly Seen Pathology Associated with the Tibial Nerve and Branches
  • Assessment of Nerve Enlargement, Compression and Muscle Denervation

Objectives: After viewing the activity, the participant should be able to:

  • State the clinical indications for performing ultrasound evaluation of the tibial nerve.
  • Recognize sonographic appearance of the tibial nerve anatomy.
  • List examination protocols and scan techniques for evaluation of the tibial nerve.
  • Identify commonly seen tibial nerve pathology and apply diagnostic criteria for accurate diagnosis
